Arlen Specter
Arlen Specter changed parties today, becoming a Democrat. Both sides are being annoying about this. Republicans are bashing him, essentially saying, "Well, we didn't want him." Uh, yes you do. And Democrats, for the most part, are too happy, thinking he's going to vote the party line on everything. Specter isn't a rubber stamp Senator. He votes his conscience on everything. That's a good thing. It doesn't matter which party he belongs to. He'll always vote for what he feels is right. The only change is that he won't caucus with Republicans and won't face Republican primary challengers.
The worst take on the switch that I've read comes from Think Progress. Matt Yglesias, who writes for them is one of the best bloggers out there, but the author of this is a tool. She attacks Specter for not supporting Obama's agenda on all fronts. That's what we should want out of our representatives - people who think for themselves, instead of being a pawn for their party.

Tell me again why I care about what a comedian with only cursory knowledge of political issues thinks about our political landscape?
Thank you so much. I never thought of it like that.
One of the things I've forgotten is that comedians aren't supposed to have opinions on politics, or anything that's important. But relationships sure are crazy, aren't they? And celebrities... holy shit! Really, no one should have opinions on politics except for people who anonymously comment on blogs. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING!!!!
I like how you insult my knowledge of politics because you disagree with me about Arlen Specter. That's like a kid saying, "You don't like SpongeBob? Well, you're stupid then."
Have you anonymously commented on HuffPost about how they only have a "cursory knowledge" of comedy, yet they have a whole section dedicated to it?
You don't have to read everything you click on.
I actually agree with most of your ramblings, as you and I are probably VERY closely politically aligned. I just have no idea why on your blog, which I can only assume was designed to be used as a vehicle to further and promote your comedy career, do you feel compelled to inundate your audience with this 2 bit political commentary? Most of the times with very little comedic context.
Of course you're 'allowed' to have an opinion and I'm cool if you want to go the David Cross route...I just can't see why ANYONE would be interested in political commentary without the comedic context.
Seems odd to me.
Dearest Anonymous,
I don't see my blog as strictly a marketing tool for myself. I just don't think in terms of marketing.
You're coming across like the woman who sued McDonald's because her son got fat from eating their food. Then eat something else. It's that simple.
You can skip posts. Nothing is mandatory. In my defense, I think your criticism is misguided. Practically everything politics-related on my site is either 1) Something ridiculous said by a politician, 2) Short (2-bit) synopses and links to a story that I think people may have missed, or 3) Pointing out hypocrisy.
The point of a blog is that you can share whatever thoughts you're having at any moment. Not everything is for everyone. I know that. My favorite bloggers/blog sites are Andrew Sullivan, Matt Yglesias and HuffPost. Sullivan posts poems, Pet Shop Boys videos and testaments of faith. I have no interest in those posts, so I skip them. Yglesias really doesn't stray, but that's a rarity for bloggers. HuffPost has a lot of editorials that I'm not into, posted an article last week about how allergies are all mental, and a comedy section that is 99 percent parodies. I skip those sections because they aren't for me, but probably interest others.
So I'm sorry that not everything on my site interests you. Read what interests you and skip the rest.
